Broadening participation in authentic STEM learning: Lessons from four STEM learning ecosystems
Through a collaboration of STEM learning ecosystems in Alaska, Arizona, North Carolina, and several Northeastern US states, our team identified practices and pathways to broaden participation in STEM learning. Then we created resources and opportunities for collaboration to share our findings and learn from others doing similar work.
Our collaborative, funded by the NASA Science Activation program, includes SLEs that predominantly work within and for rural communities. We used an iterative inquiry process that included literature review, focus groups with ecosystem practitioners, and interviews with experts across several years. Our goal was to identify generalizable principles and practices across different partnerships and places. The result is this workshop with insights, tools, and processes to support both newly forming and actively growing SLEs.
