PROFILE

As one of the Associate Directors of the NSF-funded Nanoscale Science and Engineering Center for High-rate Nanomanufacturing (CHN), I have several roles. My home department is in engineering, and I am thrust leader for "responsible nanomanufacturing", which encompasses various aspects of the societal implications of nanotechnology. This research involves interdisciplinary collaborations to address regulation, ethical issues, environmental health and safety issues and the economic tradeoffs associated with the manufacturing processes that are under development. I am also the education coordinator for the Northeastern University partner in our Center (which has partnerships with the University of Massachusetts Lowell and the University of New Hampshire). Carol Barry from UML is the lead Education Coordinator for CHN. As a member of the education team, I coordinate the 10-week Research Experiences for Undergraduate summer program at NU. I also worked with a local game designer at Metaversal Studios to develop a computer-based nanotech game for 6th to 8th grade students, called "Geckoman!". Further, I have participated as a speaker in the Museum of Science Boston Public Forums on several occasions.

NANO INTEREST AREAS:
