PROFILE

David Ucko has devoted his career to advancing informal science education through innovative learning experiences and resources. As president of Museums + more LLC, he now shares his experience with others. While at the National Science Foundation, he initiated NISE Net, CAISE, the Framework for Evaluating Informal Science Education Projects, and a seminal study on Learning Science in Informal Environments as acting division director and deputy director, Division of Research on Learning in Formal and Informal Settings, and as section head, Informal Science Education. As founding president of Science City at Union Station, Ucko spearheaded the decade-long development of the linchpin for the transformation of Kansas City’s historic landmark into a $250+ million mixed-use educational attraction based on a themed immersion experience. As vice president for Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry and deputy director for the California Museum of Science and Industry, he produced major interactive exhibitions such as “My Daughter, the Scientist,” “Technology: Chance or Choice?,” “Inquiry,” and “Everyday Chemistry.” Ucko served as Presidential appointee confirmed by the Senate to the National Museum Services Board and chaired the Advocacy and Publications Committees of the ASTC. He wrote two college chemistry textbooks while on the faculty of Antioch College in Ohio and the City University of N.Y. Ucko is a AAAS Fellow and a Woodrow Wilson Fellow. He received his Ph.D. in inorganic chemistry from M.I.T. and B.A. in chemistry from Columbia.
