PROFILE

Ben Lewis first started teaching skiing in Austria in 1985. He spent 2 years there and 5 years at the Mt shasta ski park from 1995-2000. In 2001 Ben earned a multiple subject teaching credential from Chico State and began teaching in the charter school/ homeschool system around his home in Siskiyou County. Ben has taught, and speaks fluent German, he worked as a substitute teacher in the Bay Area from 1993-1995 and continued to do so after moving to Mt Shasta in 1996. As a mountain guide for Sierra Wilderness Seminars Ben focused in on the things he really wanted to learn about: natural science, history and the vast natural resources of the wild North State. After cutting firewood, hiking, exploring, backpacking and camping in Northern California's majestic mountains and forests, Ben's interests began to include the amazingly complex realm of forest and timber management. As natural Science and Forestry educator at Turle Bay Museum in Redding, CA Ben hopes to bridge the gap of understanding between those who wish to utilize our resources through conservation and management and yes, profit; and those who wish to preserve what has been called a natural environment in our state's vulnerable yet renewable forests. Ben is also a life long musician and singer who has been performing professionally since the age of 9 years old when he started singing with the San Francisco Boys Chorus. Ben has been writing and recording original music with various bands and alone in his home studio for the past 20 years. You can check it out at www.myspace.com/benjamminlewis.
