My research interest is in the general area of nanoscale studies of biomineralization and specifically looking at the sequestration of heavy metals into nanoparticles by microbes and plants. I am committed to the integration of cutting-edge science and engineering research frontiers and leading-edge telecommunications technologies to create formal and informal educational materials. I am also working to create student-scientist partnerships to foster inquiry-based learning and teaching of science in the K-12 system. I am investigating the influence of Nature-nano connection for understanding and appreciation of nanotechnology as well as on the acceptance of products from nanotechnology & promotion of business related to nanotechnology. A recent grant from NSF has allowed me to foster international collaboration with Taiwan in nanotechnology education and outreach.
