General Privacy Statement
The Nanoscale Informal Science Education Network (NISE Net) is a national community of researchers and informal science educators working together to foster public awareness, understanding, and engagement with nanoscale science and technology. The NISE Network maintains a website for education professionals (www.nisenet.org) and a portal page designed for the public (www.whatisnano.org) (henceforth “Website”).
As an element of its operations in pursuit of that mission, the NISE Network routinely collects contact and other personal information from or about its constituents. NISE Network recognizes and respects the need for privacy and security with information of this kind. NISE Network is committed to following both the letter and the spirit of all laws governing its operations, including those pertaining to privacy and use of information.
Notification of Changes to this Policy
To further its mission and better serve its constituents, NISE Network is continually improving and adding new functionality and features to its Website and improving and adding to its existing services and programs. Because of these ongoing changes and the changing nature of technology, NISE Network's information practices will change from time to time.
If and when its information practices change, NISE Network will post the policy changes to its Website to notify its constituents of the changes and, where appropriate and practical, give them the opportunity to "opt-out" of the new programs and practices. If you are concerned about how your personal information is used, please check back at NISE Network's Website frequently or contact NISE Network at email@example.com.
Information Collected by NISE Network
NISE Network currently collects constituent member contact information, such as street address, phone and fax numbers and e-mail address. Additional information provided by the constituent—such as responses to survey information and information collected to fulfill requests for information about NISE Network—may also be added to NISE Network databases.
Personal Information Collected by NISE Network Online
NISE Network collects the personal information constituents specifically provide when they visit our Website. This includes, for example, the information constituents provide when they register as members or complete a survey. In addition, our e-mail newsletters and information updates often contain hyperlinks to additional information on our Website and elsewhere on the Web. NISE Network currently uses technology to track how often these links are used and which pages particular e-mail subscribers choose to view. NISE Network uses this information to compile statistics, improve these e-mail services and customize our future communications with e-mail subscribers.
Other Information Collected by NISE Network Online
NISE Network uses technology to collect a wide range of statistical information about the use of our Website. For example, we currently use technology to determine how constituents access the Website (this information may include the name of the visitor's Internet service provider or the type of Web browser used) and which pages they view. This technology does not identify constituents personally - it simply enables NISE Network to compile statistics about our site visitors and the use of the site.
Children's Privacy on the Web
NISE Network encourages families to visit NISE Network’s Website together as a shared activity, and NISE Network abides by the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). In compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, we do our best to delete any information we inadvertently collect from children under the age of 13 who visit our Website as soon as we gain actual knowledge of its existence. If you learn or suspect that your child has provided personal information to NISE Network during one of his or her visits to our Website, please contact NISE Network at firstname.lastname@example.org.
To learn more about how to protect your child's privacy on the Web, please see "Social Networking Sites: A Parent's Guide" from the Bureau of Consumer Protection at http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/tech/tec13.shtm.

NISE Network currently uses the information it collects about its constituents to provide the products, services, and membership benefits our constituents request; to administer NISE Network programs, to improve services and offerings; to improve NISE Network Website and electronic communications; and to improve operating procedures to better serve constituents.

In addition, there may be some limited circumstances in which NISE Network may share or transfer the information in its databases. Examples include to respond to judicial process; to comply with state, federal or local laws; to protect the security or integrity of its databases or its Website; to take precautions against liability; in the event of a corporate reorganization; or to provide information to law enforcement agencies to the extent required by law.

General Resource Statement
The Nanoscale Informal Science Education Network (NISE Net) is a national community of researchers and informal science educators working together to foster public awareness, understanding, and engagement with nanoscale science and technology. The NISE Network maintains a website for education professionalas (www.nisenet.org) and a portal page designed for the public (www.whatisnano.org) (henceforth “Website”).
It is the desire of the NISE Net to provide a broad array of digital resources (henceforth “resources” or “resources and products”) and to make those resources widely available to our partners for educational use.
NISE Network digital resources are defined as resources developed by the NISE Network, in part or in whole, with funding from the National Science Foundation under Award Numbers 0532536 and 0940143, and include but are not limited to digital versions of programs, exhibits, forums, activities, photographs, video, text, audio, Web pages, drawings, illustrations, interactive tools, and other materials. Most products created by the NISE Network are available under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike license allowing you to print, download, reproduce, distribute, publicly perform and/or publicly display most NISE Net resources for non-commercial, educational use provided they are credited to the NISE Network, NSF, and, where applicable, the organization or person who developed the resources. You may make adaptations of or modifications to most NISE Network resources for non-commercial, educational purposes, again provided the derivative work is properly attributed and is "shared alike"—available to others under the same license that governs the original work.
Some products and resources listed on nisenet.org have different use guidelines that are more restrictive than the Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike license. You must check the “Permissions” and “Credits” section of each educational product on the website to determine exact rights and permissions.
