We are a natural science museum and wildlife sanctuary with indoor exhibit space and outdoor exhibit space. Our next indoor exhibit is Treasures from the Earth and will feature Rocks, Minerals, and Fossils that have never been displayed before from private collectors. This exhibit opens April 3rd, 2009. Outdoor exhibits include, Animals of the World, Native Butterflies of Texas (seasonal), and Dinosaurs Alive (seasonal). We have a wildlife sanctuary with 289 acres with a wonderfully diverse selection of ecosystems. We have 50+ acres of wetlands, a pond, over half a mile of slough, prairie, and bottomland rare oak forest with trees that are over 350 years old. We offer quality science and environmental education activities for school groups, homeschool students, and the general public that visit us. Most of our general visitors are family groups. The Heard has 6 different hiking trails, including an elevated board walk that goes out into our wetlands. We have a large group of dedicated volunteers that have been trained and help educate the many guests that visit each year.
