Aimee Stern, President of Stern Communications
Aimee is a 20 year veteran of the marketing communications, journalism and education fields. She excels at transforming scientific and technical information into concise messages and materials for a wide variety of clients. Stern Communications, which she launched a year ago, is a network of independent communications professionals who specialize in healthcare, science, education, and marketing.
Aimee’s work is published in over 100 newspapers and magazines, including the New York Times, U.S. News & World Report, Fortune’s Small Business, Money and Business Week.
She spent eight years with DC-based Potomac Communications Group building a science, engineering and health practice that included the National Science Foundation, the Department of Energy’s Office of Science, the and the National Academy of Engineering, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, among others. The practice accounted for more than 10% of revenues.
She spent two years at the Harvard Business School developing and writing case studies for the first year marketing course. And she spent five years developing and managing The Marketing Report, a highly successful newsletter read by more than 25,000 senior marketing executives on building business in tough economic times.
Aimee’s work leading a team on AAAS’ The Science Inside Alcohol Project exemplifies her breath of experience and leadership abilities. She is the communications lead on this three-year grant from the National Institutes of Health which focuses on educating kids and their parents about the science of alcohol. Our work includes:
• Marketing and Communications Strategy (a strategic communications plan)
• Branding – Messages, look and feel, website and print brochure development.
• Consumer and Trade Media Outreach – In year one, we were featured in USA Today, Forbes, UPI and Reuters electronic/print, broadcast/cable TV, health sites, blogs, etc.
• Product Development – Research with parents and in schools to develop an interactive lesson on how alcohol affects the body’s systems, a print and electronic book for parents (March/April 2009), and event at AAAS 2009 annual meeting in Chicago, IL.
A former educator and mother of two school age children, Aimee is dedicated to helping the healthcare and education communities improve outreach to a wide variety of stakeholders. She is deeply involved with COPUS (The Coalition on Public Understanding of Science), IABC, ASAE, her local schools, and a variety of community groups. She is working on a novel and collection of short stories.
