Mixing Molecules is a full-body immersive simulation demonstrating the collision of molecules at the nanoscale. The digital interface allows visitors to use their shadows to “push” animated molecules that are projected onto a screen in a darkened room. Visitors can manipulate the collsion of the molecules, speeding or slowing the formation of new compounds. The piece demonstrates the connection between the nanoscale - where individual molecules collide with each other - and the macroscale where many small random collisions appear as one larger, consistent motion.
Creating Nanomaterials is an interactive, multimedia component of the Intro to Nanotechnology exhibit package that demonstrates how scientists are using the ability of molecules to self-assemble to create consumer goods with surprising properties. Visitors place and observe “molecules” on an air hockey table. When the air hockey table is activated, the “molecules” hover and assemble into patterns all by themselves—just like molecules in nanomaterials.
Multi- award winning danceroom Spectroscopy (dS) is a new interactive visualisation of the nano-world. Fusing 3D imagery with real molecular dynamics, dS allows you to see your own energy field, and use it to interact with the otherwise invisible atomic world.
Quarked! - Adventures in the Subatomic Universe brings subatomic physics to life through a multimedia project including an interactive website, a facilitated program for museums and schools, and an educational outreach program.
Animated segments focus on the adventures of Ushi (up-quark), Danny (down-quark), and Harold (up-quark) as they take on the invisible world of particle physics in their proton subatomic universe vehicle (SUV). Each Quarked character has an animated human counterpart who learns ways to solve everyday problems through the Quarked! micro-world adventures.
NanoSpace is a web-based, virtual theme park for children of all ages! Explore the world of atoms and molecules with games, activities and short animations in a fun-filled amusement park and learning environment launched in 2012.
"Exploring Size - Moving Molecules" is a hands-on activity in which visitors use an air cannon toy to spin pinwheels. They learn that air is made up of molecules, which are tiny nanometer-sized particles.
“Nanotube Models” is a facilitated tabletop program aimed at educating the public about the properties and applications of carbon nanotubes. Visitors will be able to use Molecular Visions model kits to build carbon nanotubes. The models can be started by museum staff and added onto by visitors, or pre-built to be used as a display. The models can also be accompanied by other NISE Net programs that focus on carbon nanotubes to increase the engagement and enhance the models.
The Molecularium® Project at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute has developed educational cartoon films that explore the world of atoms and molecules. The videos are aimed at young people, families, and school groups. Additional resources include images and an educator's guide.

A 40-minute live dramatic performance exploring nanoscale science and technology. Dan and Joel are brothers - Dan a know-it-all and Joel a naif - who must deliver a juggling show about atoms, molecules, nanoscale forces and scanning probe microscopy when it is discovered that the scheduled performers - the Nano Brothers - are too small to see.
"Exploring Size - Scented Balloons" lets visitors use their sense of smell to explore the world on the nanoscale. They learn that we can smell some things that are too small to see, and that a nanometer is a billionth of a meter.
