Overview

Description:

This cart demonstration reviews the basics about nanotechnology. Visitors learn that nanoscale objects are very small and have surprising properties because of their size. They also learn about some of the possible technologies that may lead to. They mix chemicals, turn potatoes black, generate electricity, and see invisible light in their exploration.

Scientists and engineers have formed the interdisciplinary field of nanotechnology by investigating properties and manipulating matter at the nanoscale.

Nanoscience, nanotechnology, and nanoengineering lead to new knowledge and innovations that weren't possible before.

Nanotechnologies have costs, risks, and benefits that affect our lives in ways we cannot always predict.

Nano Intro Cart Program

The Nano Intro Cart Program uses several small demonstrations and experiments to give visitors an introduction to nanoscience basics. The big idea for the program is that “nanotechnology takes small things that act differently to do something useful.” The program’s learning goal is for visitors to “know that self-assembly is a process for creating nanomaterials.” A total of 31 visitors responded to a survey after the program.
