General Description:

The Liquid Nitrogen Nano Ice Cream activity was conducted with visitors at the Science Museum of Minnesota in March of 2010. A total of 12 visitors provided feedback through a survey designed to measure engagement with and comprehension of the activity.

Major Findings:

Those who participated in the Liquid Nitrogen Nano Ice Cream activity demonstrated a high level of engagement with and comprehension of the activity. Thus, Liquid Nitrogen Nano Ice Cream appears to be rather successful in imparting its first learning objective: “To introduce the visitor to the field of nanoscale science and technology.”

It is unclear whether the activity was successful with its second objective: “To encourage the visitor to learn more about nanoscale science and technology.” When probed, visitors demonstrated their understanding with and connection of the activity to nanotechnology. However, when first asked about the main message, most visitors did not immediately connect the activity to nano.
