Tips and Resources for NanoDays 2014 event organizers

We hope you’re getting excited for NanoDays!

We wanted to let you know about some additional NanoDays resources you may find useful:

NanoDays Activity Training Videos

We now have training videos for all 2014 NanoDays activities and programs. These videos are perfect for staff and volunteer training. Keep checking back, because we’re working to eventually have videos for all NanoDays activities! For more information and a list of links take a look at this blog post:

NanoDays Volunteer Survey

The NISE Network evaluators need your help! This year, we are conducting an evaluation focused on the 2014 NanoDays events. As part of this study, we would like to invite all NanoDays volunteers to complete an online survey after their volunteering experience. The survey should take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete and will be available online starting March 24th, 2014. Information about the survey and the link to the live survey will be available at:

If volunteers complete the survey by April 18th, they’ll have an opportunity to enter a drawing for one of twenty $50 Amazon.com gift cards. Please help us by reminding your volunteers and event coordinators about this survey. More information and reminder cards are included in the NanoDays kit.

NanoDays promotional and marketing materials

Materials include a sample press release you can customize for your institution, promotional 30-second video, logos, clip art, and photos (these were included in your physical kit). We’ve also included embeddable widgets icons if you want to put a link on your website to the public audience website: www.whatisnano.org. More information and resources  are available here:

NanoDays 2014 events throughout the US!

NanoDays events are happening across the country, from Puerto Rico to Hawaii. The list is available here:

If you are holding a NanoDays event and are not listed on this page, please contact [email protected] so we can add you to the list.

Free digital NanoDays 2014 kit

The digital kit contains the electronic files for all of the printed materials in the physical kits - you may find it helpful to share this link with your staff or collaborators:

Reporting after your event is over

The link to the required online NanoDays report is now available here:

Attached are a PDF and Word document versions of the online form so that you can be prepared before you begin the report online. The report takes approximately 20 minutes to complete. Please note that it is NOT possible to save your work in the SurveyGizmo online form and return for additional edits. Reports left idle for too long will go blank when you progress to the next screen. Please plan to complete the online report in one session. You may want to write your responses in a Word doc, save, and then cut and paste that information into the report.

As you know, if you received a physical kit this year, the report is required. If you co-hosted an event with another organization using a single kit, only one of you is required to fill out the report.

The reporting deadline for NanoDays is May 1. Once you complete the report on time, your name will be entered into two drawings for a fabulous set of educational materials to use with your visitors. Winners will be notified by the end of May.

Ammeter mix-up

Due to an ordering mix-up with one of our suppliers, you may have received the wrong ammeter as part of your 2014 NanoDays kit. The ammeter in question is part of the Exploring Properties¬—Electric Squeeze activity. Some of the NanoDays kits erroneously contained a 50 amp (A) ammeter, when they all should have contained a 50 microamp (µA) ammeter. The NanoDays team is currently working to fix this problem. 250 multimeters  have been shipped to partners with new instructions. For more details, see the blog post:

Sharing photos from your event

We are always happy to receive photos from your event (particularly of your NanoDays team members) if we have a signed NISE Network release form. Here is a set of steps for how to share your photos:

Thanks again for participating in NanoDays 2014!

We look forward to hearing about your events!
